Central Europe, mid-18th century

Malleable iron. Forged body composed of lap-welded, riveted, and welded bands decorated with grooved acanthus leaves. Heart-shaped lock on the front and on the lid. The forged bar oval handles on the sides have ring knobs in the centre. Inside the lid, the locking mechanism is concealed behind a lattice. Hammered lattice of interwoven acanthus leaves issuing from a centre heart. Bun feet.
